Butterfly Challenge - Week 3

Our weather predictions were rather varied this week! Thank you to Thelma (Who accurately predicted that it was okay to train at our usual location). The slight downpour was a relief from the 30 degree heat.

The heat for our Challenge is also turning up a few notches with Gareth having the Butterflies stretch a little extra this week. We are noticing an improvement every week in all our Butterflies. Whether or not you are setting your intentions every week, did you think that you would be training like a Fighter 2 or 3 months ago?

This week we covered over our basic stances and punches and added to our Butterfly cocktail, the Left Hook.

Remember the Left hook can be just as dangerous and powerful as your right hand. When throwing the left hook, your weight sits mainly on your back foot, leaving your front foot free to rotate with your hips. The best hook is one that is delivered while protecting your jaw at all times!

Congratulations to all Butterflies for doing some great partner work and also for putting in the extra effort in squats and pushups. Let us know how you are feeling! We are excited about next week and are looking forward to seeing you there!

Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things

Over the years, I have come across many people who don’t realize how extraordinary they are. Who are these Extraordinary Women? They could be standing right next to you.

In fact, it IS You.

I am sometimes awestruck by the strength, courage and intelligence of the Women I encounter. And yet the part that I see is just a small portion of these seemingly 'normal' Women’s lives.

Butterfly Challenge- Week 2

It was a gorgeous day at Underwood Park for Week 2 of The Butterfly Boxing challenge. It was also great to welcome on board a couple of new and friendly faces.

This week we covered over the Basics and added some defensive skills to the mix - blocking a Jab and defending a right hand. Remember, the more relaxed you are, the easier it is to see and defend any oncoming attacks.

Gareth likes to say as an example: "If you know someone is going to throw a rock at you, the tendency is to tense up,expect it, be more rigid and less likely to be able to move quickly. But if you aren't expecting it, you don't tense up and your reaction time is much quicker without thought or tension"

The trick with defense is to be prepared (I.E Your hands correctly positioned to defend) but relaxed. It comes with practice and confidence- something that happens every time you train and commit yourself to learning and experiencing.

With such a large group of women learning and doing, it is no wonder that interested bystanders are curious and dare I say- a little in awe of what is being practiced.

Thank you Butterflies for being such a great team to work with. Make your intentions this week as powerful and rewarding as you dare! See you next week. H

Butterfly Challenge - Week 1

WOW! What a fantastic start to our 6 Week Challenge at Underwood Park. It has been a real pleasure to meet such a charming and spirited group of Women and the Team are excited to be able to work with such a positive and fun group.
Week 1 covered the basics, from handwrapping to The Basic Stance and on to a Fighter's Circuit. It is always inspiring to the team to see everyone put in their best efforts and it is even better to see the smiles after a session is completed.

Congratulations to all our Butterflies.
Remember to set powerful intentions for yourself this week. What is it that you want to accomplish from this Challenge. Is it to attend every session and give it 100%? Is it to practice being healthier throughout the week? Is it to learn how to master the Fighter's stance and throw a killer right hand?

No matter what you intend and set out to do, believe that you will do it.
Remember, we are on your team and a keen to be of assistance to you. The Boxing Shop Trainer's are:

No Limit for Boxing Butterflies

Brisbane’s most innovative boxing trainers are changing the face of the sport of Boxing by introducing women’s only training ‘Butterfly Boxing’.

Butterfly Boxing has been received with keen interest from Women right across Brisbane and is sure to set more than a few hearts on fire with the introductory 6 Week Challenge taking Underwood Park by storm from the 15th of November.

Butterfly Boxing is the brainchild of Specialist Boxing Trainer, Gareth Williams and his partner, Elite Performance Coach, Huia Hikaiti who own and operate The Boxing Shop. Butterfly Boxing is their solution to requests from women all across Brisbane for boxing training ‘just for the Girls’.

The program teaches the real art of Boxing and encourages women to bring out their best in an environment that is fun and challenging – without being intimidating. It is a well known fact that Boxing is the major contender for improving physical condition and wellbeing but until now many ladies have been forced into inadequate substitutes for quality boxing training.

Gareth says that the women in Brisbane can now look forward to experiencing how good boxing training can be without having to worry if they have enough fitness or experience. “We have designed Butterfly Boxing so that no matter where you are at, you can learn to master the art of boxing and have a great time doing it”.

Huia says “There is definitely no pussyfooting around here though! The most important thing about Butterfly Boxing, is that you learn to be a Fighter from the start. We teach from the basics and encourage mastery of them so that it becomes like second nature. From there, the sky is the limit! We are all about encouraging healthy balance and a positive attitude. You can be totally feminine and a Warrior, there is no doubt about that. That is what makes our Butterfly Boxers so Hot!

All Butterfly Boxers are given the opportunity to advance to the next level of training depending on what their own specific goals are. Even if you don’t want to fight, you can still challenge yourself and measure your progress by completing all 3 levels of training. This helps to keep you motivated and on track if you are the kind of person that needs a challenge to step up to.
All Trainers are accredited through Boxing Australia as a minimum and have been undergone specialist training to ensure the highest standards are met. Butterfly Boxing is expanding rapidly and will be available at convenient locations all across Brisbane in 2007. To view more information about the upcoming challenge you can enroll online at
www.theboxingshop.com.au or call 1300 66 00 17 to register your interest.
